The Swell Season
I remember being absolutely captivated within the first few minutes of the movie Once by the music of Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova. Vicki, Micah, Anne and I went to the movie because we knew it was set in Dublin, Ireland and we heard that the music was good. The music was more than good and the movie turned out to be one of my favorites of the year. The song "Falling Slowly" won an Academy Award for the Best Original Song of 2007. Last night Glen, Marketa and a cast of amazing musicians
performed Swell Season at the Uptown Theatre. This was a perfect venue for this show. It was also excellent to be there with more than two dozen YouthFront staff and/or alumni, more than 50 Jacob's Well staff and/or members, and a handful of friends on staff at Christ Community Church. Wow, what an experience, what a night.

Hi, I loved the music as well - every bit of it - but I was troubled a little with the paganism behind some of the music. Maybe I was the only one who saw that, but I'd love to get some input from someone. I go to Christ Community, so maybe you could put me in touch with someone from there who also attended the concert. I'd really appreciate it!

OK, maybe troubled is the wrong word. How about saddened?

Yes, I agree. The story he told about the healer and her husband and the two spirits was downright strange. He is definitely someone interested in spiritual things even though he makes it clear that he doesn't expect to find the answers in the church. I hope he encounters passionate, missional Christians along the way. The music is filled with real lyrics and really great melodies. The violin player was stinkin' awesome. E-mail me and I will connect you with a staff member from Christ Community.

Man, I am jealous! I love the movie and the music from it and wanted to go to their concert here in Denver, but it sold out quick. Oh well...

Dusty,
greetings. The show was truly amazing. Don Chaffer was at YouthFront today and Vicki mentioned that she really liked the concert but wondered what Don thought, being the great artist that he is. Don went off on how musically superior the show was... perfection... and that coming from one who would know.
Peace,
Mike
