Through Youthfront's Feed the Hunger Haiti initiative more than 70 churches and groups and several thousand (mostly young people) have participated to purchase and pack meals for those suffering in Haiti. As of today we have 170,000 meals ready for Haiti but requests for meals are growing every day. Our first container of meals (approximately 250,000 meals) will be shipped next week in partnership with TouchGlobal.
Earlier this week, my good friend and Youthfront supporter Jeremy Affeldt called and asked us to consider helping Global Orphan Project with much needed meals for 2,000 orphans in Haiti. I put Jeremy on the speaker phone and he spent some time encouraging our exhausted leadership team. Jeremy and Larisa are committing matching money for this project.
Most of our staff are familiar with the Global Orphan Project so it seemed to be a "no-brainer" to respond out of the overflow of generosity happening in our city and among our other church partners around the country. Yesterday I talked to the leadership of Global Orphan Project and they were overwhelmed with thanksgiving to God for the opportunity to get the much needed food. They need in now. Their orphanages have swelled from 2,000 to 2,500 orphans since the earthquake. By faith I committed at least 100,000 meals for these orphanages. We would like to send them a whole container of meals (approximately a quarter of a million meals) within the next couple of weeks.
We will need $100,000 to reach the goal we have in the first month following the earthquake for the meals we have committed by faith to do. Right now we have $60,000 that has been donated in the last 10 days.
