During Lent I'm sharing a series of thoughts and summaries from reading N.T. Wright's The Resurrection of the Son of God. They will be from the second half of the book dealing mostly with the New Testament Narratives...
The claim that Jesus is Lord, by the early followers of Jesus, in its fullest meaning was the acknowledgement that Jesus was the ultimate sovereign of the cosmos. This held major ramifications in the Roman world because it strongly implied that Caesar was not lord. Wright shows how the scriptures declaring Jesus Lordship were very similar to what was being said about Caesar as Imperial Lord. Matthew declares that all authority on heaven and earth belongs to Jesus. Paul states that all things are subject to Jesus power. The Revelation declares Jesus as “King of Kings and Lord of Lords.” Chapter Twelve, Page 568-70
