This was one of those really great weekends. Late Friday afternoon I headed to the Plaza to do some reading and preparation for several speaking engagements coming up. I found a prime outdoor sidewalk table in the new redesigned Latte Land. Surprise, my nephew was working at Latte Land - meaning free coffee. Vicki joined me, Andrew my nephew delivered her a Chai Tea on the house and we sat there for a couple hours, enjoying the weather and at least a dozen conversations with people walking by from church - Jacob's Well or from YouthFront connections. We had dinner and saw Crash. I continued my preparation stuff on Saturday. I called some friends the night before about doing something together on Saturday night and Saturday afternoon I started calling other friends - just about everyone I called was game to see Will Ferrell's Kicking and Screaming, not exactly intellectually stimulating but really fun when you have 17 close friends sitting together laughing hilariously. Drinks and conversation made for a late night. Sunday I saw, by myself Kingdom of Heaven. I know, you are thinking "what the heck is up with all the movies?" Part of my answer is in the free pass I have for a particular Theater chain, but the biggest reason is the fact that my life has been so out of control with non-stop working that I haven't been to movies for some time. I love stories. I love movies. So this week was intentional therapy. I finished Sunday night by speaking to a group of college students at Church of the Resurrection. It took me 15 minutes to find the location of the college service once I was on the campus. I think COR seems bigger to me than Willow Creek. My subject was to share my spiritual journey and talk about the emerging church. Great fun. I stayed an hour and 20 minutes after I finished speaking to continue answering questions and engage in dialog. Great bunch of people, several were interested in the Altar, hoping for more time with them in the future to discuss spiritual formation. Eduardo, their pastor has been to several KC Emergent Cohort meetings and is passionate for God. I'm packed for Nashville, leaving tomorrow for 2 days of YS' Soul Shaper Board Meeting and then the Emergent Conference (I'm helping facilitate a forum on Mysticism - not my choice for a title but should be interesting). Peace and Joy.
movies are a part of my spiritual disciplines as well.
the popcorn is temptation though...
