For nearly two months we have been preparing to incorporate The Advent Conspiracy into our Advent season at Jacob's Well. This has been a full and life-giving conversation and now that we have implemented the Advent Conspiracy it has captivated our community. When I say "our community" I am referring to all ages. Advent Conspiracy was initiated by the Imago Dei Community in Portland and Ecclesia in Houston. My friend Chris Seay is one of the founders.
The focus of The Advent Conspiracy is to restore the scandal of Christmas by worshiping Jesus through compassion not consumption. The Vision is to Worship More; Spend Less; Give More; and Love All.
In the Jacob's Well community we are experiencing all kinds of creativity around the idea of engaging in Christmas in a deeper more biblical way. It has been very natural for us to embrace the project of digging wells (after all we are Jacob's Well) to provide clean drinking water for those who do not have access to this necessity of life (more specifics on this later).
I'm not suggesting that The Advent Conspiracy hasn't resulted in some dissonance. It is hard to break out of our consumerist behavior and ideas of Christmas being about buying stuff we and our families and friends don't really need. And yet, transformation is pulsating through our community. This is already rippling out beyond our church community to the community of friends and neighbors around us. I'm being changed. Change isn't always a pleasant thing. The Advent Conspiracy has turned on us, may Christ be exalted.

I am interested and excited to hear more about Jacobs "Well" possible involvement with living water. I have been working for the City of Topeka's water deparment doing consruction and maitenance on the infrastructure here. So, from a practical point of view with a heart for social justice and thir world development, I have recenlty considered my options of training down in Houston. Hope life is good, and it is refresing to see you continue serving Christ.
