Our First Moment

Our first truly cool "moment" happened on the Mt. of Beatitudes.  We spent time reading and talking about Jesus' Sermon on the Mount.  As we finished we gathered together, looking out at the amazing view pictured below (the traditional site where Jesus delivered the Sermon on the Mount) with the Sea of Galilee in the background, and listened to Mike Crawford sing Words to Build a Life On.  If you've heard the song you will know why this turned into an incredible "moment" together.

We made it to Israel but our suitcases didn't...

We had some challenges with connections but we made it... unfortunately our suitcases are somewhere else in the world. 

On Pilgrimage

With another three inches of snow falling in Kansas City it is a good day to depart on a Pilgrimage to the Middle East.  I'm taking a small group of mostly young people who have worked at YouthFront Camp and go to Jacob's Well.  YouthFront staff member Nick Pickrell, who used to be in my Student Life club and church youth group, will be making his first Pilgrimage to the Middle East.  Also, Shayne Wessel, a pastor at Jacob's Well, and his wife Suzanne will be joining us.  Shayne received a grant from Midwestern Theological Seminary to go to Israel because of his academic excellence.  It should be a wonderful group and a great experience.  This will be my 21st trip to the Middle East but I'm really excited to get back to a part of the world I really love.  Hopefully, I will be able to update my blog with our experiences along the way.   

Holiday Poll for the Presidential Election of 2008

In the last 10 days we've had more than 20 guests gathered around our dining room table.  When the situation allowed, I brought up one of the subjects you're supposed to avoid - politics.  I asked our Holiday guests to weigh in on who they would vote for today if all the present candidates were on next November's ballot. 

The results;

Hillary Clinton - 2 votes

Christmas Eve at Jacob's Well

This has been an amazing season of Advent for the Jacob's Well Community.  The Advent  Conspiracy has been a great challenge and wonderful experience.  All month we have not engaged in Eucharist in preparation to celebrate the coming of our Lord Jesus.  Last night Tim had us repeat throughout the service "We would see Jesus" from John 12.  When it came time for the Eucharist Tim held up the Bread and the Wine and asked, "What do you want this Christmas?"  "We would See Jesus," came the reply.  Tim presented the Bread and Wine with "Behold, the Lamb of God."  Awesome, moving... a real celebration.  Joy to the World the Lord is COME.  see photo album

Ahh, a week of family and friends...

Last Thursday marked a transition from work to a work-less focus on family and friends for the rest of 2007.  Friday night we had twelve friends over for a dinner party.  Jessica and Micah dropped in on our party which made it even better.  I have gotten a lot of hang time with Lexi our granddaughter, she is so amazing.  Yesterday we hung out at Micah and Anne's house for awhile.  Vicki watched Lexi because Lindsay was working and Daniel and I went to Sweeney Todd.  All of our kids our coming to our house tonight, very exciting.  OK, this is starting to sound like the Lyndon, KS newspaper (my mom's small hometown) which reports all exciting events in the town like Myrtle Crenshaw had her bunion removed; the Johnson family reunion has been scheduled for the July 4th weekend in Shelter House #3 in the city park; Hank Thompson slipped on the ice and twisted his ankle; and the Bridge Club is rescheduling their December Extravaganza after the New Year.
